Trunk show / lectures can accommodate any group size. 60
to 90 minute presentations including optional video
presentation. Allow additional time for the book signing
session; we also arrange to have books, African fabrics, trims,
kits and available for sale following the program. |
African Accents for the Home gives a general overview of
African fabrics and how to use them in home décor. Pick up
valuable tips and easy ideas for working with mudcloth, korhogo,
adinkra, kente and kuba raffia cloth. Designed for general
audiences and all skill levels. |
Quilting with African Fabrics provides quilters of all
skill levels with new ideas and creative insights for using
African fabrics in quilts, from cotton prints and handcrafted
batiks to pieced mudcloth & korhogo combinations. |
On The Go! Accessories & More shows how African
fabrics translate into unique fashion accessories with style and
function. Along with the outer choices of fabrics, handles &
embellishments, tips for inner structure and support are
reviewed. |
Global Textile Influences explores a variety of fabric
techniques from around the world, the cultures that created
them, and how to incorporate them into quilting & home dec
projects. Based in part on the book Global Expressions.

African Mosaic Quilting
Our most popular workshop features our pre-cut quilt kit. By
carefully arranging 2" squares so one color range flows
gracefully into the next, you create an artistic, mosaic-style
quilt. Design tips and ideas for other projects will be given.
Kit includes 200 2" squares, one yard of pre-printed
2" fusible grid for easy assembly, and instructions. 5
hours. |
Color
Block Batik Tote
Shows off your favorite color scheme in rich 7" squares of
jacquard batiks from Ghana. Suitable for all levels from
confident beginner to advanced. Embellishments & additional
fabrics available for purchase during class, or students can
bring in their own. 4 hours. |

Embellished Mini-Quilt with Fabric Beads
Create a collage-style mini quilt (11"x14") with
bogolan from Mali and jacquard batiks from Ghana, then add
color, texture and surface interest with West African beads,
decorative yarns & other accents. Stitch by hand, by sewing
machine, or both. Create fabric beads and other fun fabric
embellishments perfect for quilts, jewelry, and general crafts.

Kuba Raffia Designer Handbag
Sew up a one-of-a-kind fashion tote, in bold geometric,
texture-rich Kuba fabric. Each piece is handcrafted in the Congo
region of central Africa. Choose barrel or classic carryall

Mudcloth
Covered Journal
Professional no-sew techniques are used to create a personal
journal - record your daily thoughts, nightly dreams, even to-do
lists with Afrocentric style! Discussion of types of journals,
tips for keeping one and more. Includes all materials; optional
embellishments available for purchase. 2-3 hours. |

Lisa's Bangle Bag
This sassy little bag has "hands-on-hip" attitude, in
your choice of mudcloth or batik fabric. Then embellish as you
like, slip it on your wrist and go! 2-3 hours. |
Open
Creative Session
Enjoy individualized instruction as you create your favorite
African fabric projects. Depending on your chosen project,
techniques can include fusing, appliqué, quilting and basic
sewing. For individuals or groups. Min. 2 hours.

Special Events &
Retreats
We
can create an event based on your group's needs, interests, time
frame and budget. Combine elements from this brochure, or
contact us to put together a completely customized event,
including holistic retreats at Jackie's on the Reef in Negril,
Jamaica, or your own location. Events can usually be arranged
for groups of six or more.

Class Registration Policy: We'll confirm your
registration by phone or email before the class. Sessions
cancelled by Cultured Expressions or the event's host will be
refunded. A student who cancels in advance will be given a
credit toward a future class or CE event. Sorry, no refund or
credit for "no-shows". In case of a weather-related
cancellation, you will be notified by phone, with the option of
a refund or credit for a re-scheduled class.
